Postdoctoral Research Associate in Sleep Science/ Physiology

Organization: University of Sydney

The Heat and Health Research Centre (HHRC) is a multidisciplinary initiative that aims to tackle the unprecedented current and future impacts of extreme heat and hot weather on human health. Through international cooperation with academics, industrial partners, policymakers, and healthcare professionals, the HHRC aims to better understand the causative pathways of – and provide evidence-based solutions for – the wide-ranging health impacts of heat exposure across the human lifespan.

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Level A) to join a growing body of research and an ever-expanding research team to work on an NHMRC-funded project looking at sleep and climate change. The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr Yorgi Mavros, and will have opportunities to work on other projects within the HHRC. The ideal candidate will have a background in sleep science/physiology with prior experience conducting overnight sleep studies, and will work as part of a collaborative research team on a project that will evaluate the efficacy of fans in hot overnight environments.

Please note, a specific requirement of this role is to conduct overnight sleep data collection.

The majority of the research will involve overnight laboratory-based data collection using simulated thermal environments in the state-of-the-art climatic chamber situated at the Susan Wakil Health Building. This role will primarily oversee data collection, analysis, and manuscript preparation for this, and potentially other funded projects.

The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate strong leadership, commitment and initiative, excellent writing and analytical skills, experience of conducting human-based experimental studies, as well as a proven ability to meet deadlines and work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
