Prioritizing Heat Mitigation Actions in Indian Cities : A Cost-Benefit Analysis under Climate Change Scenarios
Organization: World Bank Group
Year: 2024
This study examines the impacts of extreme heat on health and labor productivity in Indian cities, using Surat, Chennai, and Lucknow as case studies. It evaluates two intervention packages, “medium ambition” and “high ambition,” that vary in resource requirements. Utilizing urban climate models and public health methodologies, the research quantifies future heat stress scenarios with and without interventions. Findings aim to provide insights into adaptation financing needs and inform Heat Action Plans to mitigate heat risks in Indian urban centers.
