Urban Extreme Heat Risk Management – Resource Package
Organization: United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR)
Year: 2025
This Urban Heat Risk Management Resource Package is a collaboration of the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) Core Partners in response to the UN Secretary-General’s Call to Action on Extreme Heat. It brings together insights from over 30 global case studies and detailed analyses of five cities—Amadora (Portugal), Incheon (Republic of Korea), Quito (Ecuador), Cape Town (South Africa), and Nairobi (Kenya). Drawing from interviews and extensive research, it highlights key governance structures, best practices, and challenges in tackling urban heat. The package offers clear, practical recommendations to help local and national governments create targeted, effective, and sustainable strategies to reduce urban heat risks.
